Junior Band

Students who join Junior Band are typically in their first year of learning an instrument.

Towards the end of the school year, Year 2 students are invited to a "Try-Out Day" where they are given the opportunity to try several different instruments to see which instrument/s they enjoy and may be best suited to.  Those students who are interested in pursuing learning to play an instrument and joining band then form the Junior Band for the following year.

Junior Band is comprised primarily of Year 3 students, however, any student upwards of Year 3 who is learning an instrument for the first time is welcome to join our Junior Band.  Further, any student who has already been learning an instrument prior to entering Year 3 will be considered for whichever band best suits their current level of musical attainment.

Music lessons for Junior Band students normally commence in the first couple of weeks of Term 1.  Junior Band rehearsals typically commence in around Week 7 of Term 1, and take place in our school hall on Wednesday mornings from 7.40 am to 8.45 am.  Once they have commenced, rehearsals take place every Wednesday morning during term, unless advised otherwise by Key Music Australia.  The Junior Band conductor for 2016 is Mr Edward M.  The Junior Band Parent Liaison contacts for 2016 are Michelle S and Lisa W.

Performance opportunities for Junior Band include the concert for families at Band Camp, Band Recital Night, the Key Music Australia Charity Concert, and our End of Year Band Concert.  In 2015, Junior Band also performed at the St Stephen's fete in Normanhurst.

If your child is keen to learn an instrument and play in one of our school bands, please consider joining the band at school.  You can contact the Band Committee if you have any questions, big or small, at wphband@gmail.com.  To enrol your child please fill in an enrolment form at KMA enrolment.
