School Counselling and Chaplain Programs

School Counselling

School counselling staff are members of the school learning and support team.

A teacher may recommend the service by referring a student to the school’s learning and support team. As a parent or carer, you may refer your child directly to the school counselling service. Students can also self-refer to the service.

The school counselling service can:

  • support students who are worrying about school work, friends, getting in trouble at school or feeling down
  • help parents and carers make decisions about your child’s education
  • assess a student’s learning and behaviour
  • help teachers and students identify and address disabilities that may affect learning
  • liaise with other agencies regarding student wellbeing.

School counselling is confidential.

Chaplain Program- West Pennant Hills Public School

Our school has taken part in the voluntary National Schools Chaplaincy Program, since early 2016. Our School Chaplain / Wellbeing Support Officer, Mrs Ruth Middleton works closely with the Learning Support Team and School Principal, to complement well-being services within the school.

Ruth is available to support the social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of students, staff and families, regardless of faith or background. She also provides a trusted, caring presence within the school, having the time and training to listen, support and refer appropriately. Programs are run to help students develop self- esteem, friendships, support in dealing with grief and loss, and to build personal resilience. She currently works 3 days a week (Wed/Thurs/ Fri)

How do I access the Chaplaincy Service?

To contact the School Chaplain, or make an appointment, please phone our School Administration Office on 9484 4700 (Wed/Thur/ Fri) or email Ruth Middleton directly on ruth.middleton8@det.nsw.edu.au
